List of Famous Furniture Designers
This list of furniture designers is a growing list that
will expand over time to include designers from many different
countries and design periods. The list is categorized alphabetically.
Marcel Breuer 1902 - 1981
The Hungarian born American Marcel Lajos Breuer trained
and taught at the famous Bauhaus school of design and art.
Breur was an architect and furniture designer of several
classic modernist designs including the Wassily Chair, Cesca
Chair, Cesca Armchair, Sun Lounge Chair, and more.
Le Corbusier 1887 - 1965
Charles-Édouard Jeanneret was a Swiss French architect
and furniture designer. He pioneered Modern architecture
and design. Among the buildings he designed were the National
Museum of Western Art in Japan, Villa Savoye, Museum at
Ahmedabad in India, and the Heidi Weber Museum in Switzerland.
Charles and Ray Eames
Famous American designers were a husband and wife team of
Charles Ormond Eames, Jr and Bernice Alexandra Eames with
rather stange nickname for a woman of Ray. The architects
and furniture designers created some of the most famous
modern furniture in the world. Classic in furniture design
included the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman, Eames Lounge
Chair Wood (LCW), Low Chair Wood, Eames Executive Chair,
Eames Aluminum Ottoman, La Chaise, Eames tandem sling seating,
Eames Eiffel Fiberglass Armchair, and more.
Eileen Gray 1878 - 1976
Kathleen Eileen Moray Gray was an Irish furniture designer
and architect of the modern design movement of the 20th
century. Notable furniture designs by the famous female
designer include the E1027 table and Bibendum Chair.
Arne Jacobsen 1902 - 1972
Influential Danish furniture designer and architect that
pioneered the Danish Modern style of design. Among his famous
furniture pieces were the Swan chairs, Ant chair, and the
Egg chairs.
Marc Newson Born 1963
Famous Australian furniture designer and industrial designer
born in Sydney. Newson has designed a number of famous pieces
of furniture along with other designs ranging from Dom Perignon
packaging through to Smeg appliances. Famous pieces of furniture
include the Embryo Chair and the Lockheed Lounge.
Nina Petronzio born 1979
American female interior designer and founder of the Plush
Home brand of furniture. Her interior design firm Melrose
Avenue has served a number of Hollywood celebrities and
actors like Leonardo DiCaprio and Neve Campbell.
Philippe Starck born 1949
Famous French furniture designer and product designer known
for his sleek lines and bold colors. Starck has designed
furniture, toothbrushes, motorbikes, restaurant interiors,
hotel interiors, watches, and other consumer goods.
Bill Stumpf 1936 - 2006
William Eugene Stumpf was a furniture designer for the Herman
Miller company. His most famous chair designs include the
Herman Miller Aeron chair and Ergon chairs. Stumpf said
"I love beauty, and I love the availability of beautiful
things and useful things immediately around me."
